  • from Subject Collections -  the so-called short-term loans (overnight) - a maximum of 5 books per night at a time. Short-term loans are possible not earlier than one hour before the Library closing time, and the due time for the return is the first hour of the Library operation on the next working day.
  • from Library branches, according to applicable internal rules and regulations.

  • UWM employees and doctoral candidates - 20 books;
  • other authorised persons (e.g. retired UWM employees) - 5 titles for 30 days.

  • A daily fee of PLN 0.20 per day is charged for keeping an overdue book from the Storeroom Department or the Teaching Collection, and PLN 5 per day in the case of short-term loans from the Subject Collections.
  • Fees are to be paid at the Main Lending Desk or through the electronic payment system.
  • At the end of the academic year, students are required to settle their accounts with the Library.

Returning books

  • The books are to be returned to the same next Collection/Lending Desk from which they were borrowed.
  • The UWM University Library offers a possibility of returning books 24/7. The dropbox is located on the left side of the building, at the entrance to the Library (in front of the bus stop). We encourage the readers to use this option after previously reviewing the rules of using the dropbox. (side menu/how to use/returning books)

The readers can renew the books on their own when renewing for the first time. It is possible to renew books that have not been ordered by other readers and the renewal must be made before the due date. A further renewal can only be made by the librarian at the Main Lending Desk or in the Teaching Collection.

All older items not included in the computer catalogue should be checked in card catalogues. Publications found in the card catalogue are ordered using the library order slip or a simple sheet of paper. The order must include the following details: the library card number = the reader’s ID number, the name of the reader, the name of the author and the title of the book, the reference number (numerical or numerical and letter symbol placed on the catalogue card in the upper right-hand corner). Orders must be submitted to the Main Lending Desk, where books can be collected after 3 days.

Loans from the Teaching Collection

  • The readers look up and select the books they want to borrow on their own.
  • The books are arranged according to the subject matter, with the section determined by their content/topic. Sections:
    • from 0 to 3 (white labels with a yellow sticker) – social sciences
    • from 5 to 6 (white labels with a green sticker) – natural and technical sciences
    • from 7 to 9 (white labels with a blue sticker) – humanities and fiction.
  • The readers can register the loan on their own using a self-check – according to the limit – 10 or 20 books. In the case of a larger number of items, i.e. multi-volume works, the readers should request the assistance of the librarian.
